Dream Dancers Academy of Music and dance

As the dance and school year come to a close, Dream Dancers puts on a major dance production at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center.

Not only do all dancers get to perform a number they’ve learned in their classes, they also have the opportunity to dance in a real ballet. Every year, Ms. Laurel orchestrates a ballet for ballet students to give the children a sense of what professional performance entails. This past year, ballet students performed The Little Mermaid.

Every June recital follows a theme that Ms. Laurel announces at the end of the Christmas recital. In June 2017, the theme was a “passport to dance.” Therefore, the songs the children danced to were about places around the world. Audiences jammed to songs like “Kung Fu Fighting” by Ceelo Green or “Girls Run the World” by Beyonce.

Preparations for the June recital become time-consuming. If your child takes ballet or is on a Team, please plan to attend extra practices on Saturdays from early March until June. Ms. Laurel will hand out a precise schedule by February. These extra practices are critical to the success of our annual production. Dream Dancers thanks you in advance for your cooperation.

Dream Dancers encourages our dancers’ families to attend every show. But if you do attend, please plan to stay throughout the entire show. It is heartbreaking that the kids who dance towards the end of the show only have half the audience that the kids at the beginning have. Ms. Laurel can’t place every dance number at the beginning, but the children in the last numbers work equally as hard as the children in the first ones do. So we respectfully ask that you show them courtesy and watch them dance too.

While I dance I cannot judge, I cannot hate, I cannot separate myself from life. I can only be joyful and whole. This is why I dance.
